Planting a legacy on the Lindique farm

The joy and anticipation of planting season are written all over young Abe Lindique’s face in this photograph. Like many farmers across South Africa, his father, Piet Lindique of Lindique Boerdery, is gearing up for the new season. This year, Piet will not only have the guidance of his trusted Pannar representative, Le Roux “Botter” Breytenbach, but also the helping hands of his little sidekick, Abe, every step of the way.

On their farm in the Winburg-Senekal area of the Free State, Piet and Abe are planting PAN 5P-955PW and PAN 5P-923PW from Pannar’s white maize selection, as well as PAN 7180 from Pannar’s sunflower range.

White maize hybrids

PAN 5P-955PW has good standability and an excellent prolificacy index, yet tends not to produce too many tillers. It has good germination with strong seedling vigour, making it the best choice on the sandy soils of the north-western Free State. It also has good overall leaf disease tolerance.

PAN 5P-923PW is a new generation genetic with an upright plant type, allowing for improved harvestability. It has a high yield potential on the water table soils of the northwestern Free State. This hybrid has good standability, an excellent prolificacy index and high test weight that contributes to its yield potential.

PowerCore™ technology provides broad-spectrum protection against above-ground lepidopteran pests, stacked with glyphosate herbicide-tolerant technology for premium insect and weed control.

Sunflower hybrid

Their choice of sunflower hybrid, PAN 7180, is based on the genetics of the well-known PAN 7080, but with the benefit of an alternative choice for weed control provided by the Clearfield® Plus trait. It has excellent yield potential, has maintained a phenomenal performance record, and is well-adapted to all production regions with exceptional stability under varying conditions.

We wish Piet and Abe all the best for this season and beyond. Pannar is proud to be part of their story.
