Between Volksrust and Vrede, farmers Jan and Gerhard Potgieter are making their mark on a farm filled with young Pannar maize plants. Located in Mpumalanga, this farm thrives under both irrigation and dryland conditions. Pannar representative, Johan Hamman, shares a tailor-made package of hybrids growing on the Potgieter farm:
As the market leader under pivot, it is no surprise that the Potgieters planted PAN 3A-124. They opted for a plant population of 68,000 plants p/ha.
This hybrid maintains excellent high-yield potential and stability over seasons and is even adapted for high-potential dryland production. It is the fastest-growing platform in the Pannar range. It produces an attractive, fast-drying grain type with a semi-fixed head size, which is beneficial under high-potential conditions that require high plant populations.
A population of 43,000 p/ha of PAN 4A-132 has also been planted under dryland conditions. This hybrid is known for its exceptional yield stability and multi-cob potential, especially for its fast-growing class. The Potgieter farmers made an innovative decision with this hybrid, as it’s destined to become a big hybrid on the market.
Another exciting development on the farm is the planting of Pannar’s PowerCore® yellow maize hybrids, including PAN 4P-932PW, PAN 4P-938PW, and PAN 4P-952PW. These hybrids were selected for dryland conditions of 43,000 p/ha, and they offer cutting-edge protection against above-ground pests, thanks to PowerCore® technology. This trait technology also confers tolerance to glyphosate herbicides.
