By Christin Hunter, Marketing Communications Manager

At Pannar, we are steadfast in our commitment to you and your future. One of the most important ways we farm for your future is by providing you with the superior range of products and services you need to be a success. As a multi-crop specialist, Pannar offers a broad crop portfolio characterised by good yield potential, adaptability and stability which minimises the risk in crop production. The formidable Pannar crop package has been enhanced with several new cultivars.

YELLOW MAIZE HYBRIDS

Pannar’s formidable yellow maize package of ultra early, early, medium early and medium hybrids offer a good long-term risk-mitigating strategy. These consistently stable hybrids are widely adapted and agronomically well-balanced.

PAN 5R-882BR
PAN 5R-882BR is a new medium early stacked gene hybrid with the second-generation stalk borer resistance. It is part of the PAN 5A-182 platform that is widely adapted for all production areas and is a yield leader in the eastern Highveld. PAN 5R-882BR has a good bushel weight, and produces excellent quality, flinty grain with a golden yellow colour that is very popular with merchants. It has excellent general disease tolerance.

PAN 5R-642R
An exciting addition to the medium early growth class with tolerance to glyphosate herbicide. It is well adapted to the north-western Free State and the Northwest. It exhibits strong emergence and seedling vigour in soils with <10% clay in the topsoil. PAN 5R-642R yields very well and was a dominant performer in trials this past season.

WHITE MAIZE HYBRIDS

The Pannar white maize hybrid package is distinguished by its exceptional performance, adaptability and stability. These hybrids are well balanced agronomically and renowned for grain and milling quality.

PAN 5R-547R
This season, Pannar introduces the PAN 5R-547R platform. This new hybrid with exceptional yield potential falls into the medium early growth class. It has very good standability and is well-adapted to the sandy soils of the north-western Free State and the Northwest regions. This is a hybrid that should be strongly considered for your package in the western production areas.

PAN 5R-561R
It is an entirely new platform making its debut in the medium early class. This hybrid impressed in trials with its strong agronomic traits and exceptional yield, particularly in the western production regions. This hybrid often produces productive tillers, which contribute to its impressive prolificacy index. Its relatively longer, thinner ears facilitate rapid grain dry-down and better tolerance to cob diseases.

DRY BEANS

The exceptional multi-seasonal trial performance of Pannar’s red speckled bean package demonstrates its yield stability and wide area adaptability, giving you peace of mind that you will achieve great on-farm performance. The package’s excellent quality attributes and superior cooking characteristics make Pannar’s varieties the consumer’s first choice in red speckled beans. The small, white canning beans are market leaders with excellent yield potential and robust disease profiles.

PAN 9244
PAN 9244 is a new red speckled bean with an indeterminate growth habit well adapted to all the dry bean production areas. It is a vigorous all-rounder with good resistance to the major bean pathogens (Rust, ALS, Anthracnose and BCMV). It has a brilliant green, shiny leaf which makes it quite distinctive when grown alongside other bean varieties. It is suitable to both high input farming conditions and small-scale operations. PAN 9244 produces grain that has a large round shape with good colour definition and will be sought after by traders. The bean count is approximately 1 900 seeds per kilogram, very similar in size to PAN 9216.

SOYBEANS

Pannar’s soybean range offers you a winning combination of excellent yield potential and exceptional agronomic characteristics. The cultivars demonstrate stability over different yield potentials, production areas and seasons. Pannar offers a full range of maturity classes covering almost all planting dates and plant population requirements. With Pannar, your every soybean need is well-covered.

PAN 1588R
PAN 1588R is a medium maturity class (MG) 5.9 maturity cultivar that fits in well with PAN 1521R (MG 5.7) and PAN 1555R (MG 5.7). It has an indeterminate growth habit. PAN 1588R has a high yield potential and produces similar results to PAN 1521R which has very good yield potential and stability over different yield potentials, production areas and seasons. PAN 1588R does well in dry, hot years and is well adapted to all soybean production areas.

Regarding cultivar selection it has been found that soybean cultivars in the 5 and 6 maturity classes produce the most stable yields over the long term and should form the core of a soybean cultivar package. PAN 1588R is recommended together with PAN 1521R and PAN 1555R as part of the main planting in all the temperate dryland production areas, which also includes the western Highveld.

PAN 1692R
PAN 1692R is a medium late MG 6.3 maturity cultivar that fits in between PAN 1521R and PAN 1644R (MG 5.7). It is well adapted to the cool and temperate production regions and is best suited to well drained high potential conditions. It has good stay green characteristics.

WHEAT

Pannar wheat cultivars maintain an excellent track record, confirming the package’s excellent yield potential and adaptability in the various local production regions. Achieve top performance on your farm with Pannar’s proven well adapted wheat cultivar package. These cultivars have strong seedling vigour and good straw strength, standability, stooling capacity and grading characteristics. Pannar’s options for dryland and irrigation will meet your preferences in terms of planting dates, seeding rates as well as rust tolerance.

PAN 3373
PAN 3373 is a new intermediate cultivar suited for production in the Western and Eastern Free State dryland production area. PAN 3373 replaces PAN 3368 as the new flagship intermediate type. This cultivar will be ideal for use in supplementary irrigation systems due to its shorter growth period and excellent standability combined with robustness and class-leading tillering capability.
