Irrigated wheat trials planted under the leadership of Dr Andre du Toit in Brits

These irrigated Elite and P3 wheat trials were planted in Brits under the leadership of Pannar wheat breeder. P3 stands for "Pannar Preferred Products". The purpose of these trials is to make unbiased performance comparisons with which we can make accurate cultivar recommendations to farmers and test new promising cultivars well before Pannar puts them on the market. The main focus of the wheat breeding program is to increase the yield potential of wheat production in South Africa and to develop cultivars with better tolerance to pests such as Russian wheat aphid and rust diseases. Good information about the agronomic characteristics of cultivars enables the Pannar team to make objective cultivar recommendations so that cultivar performance meets producers' expectations – with as little risk as possible to successful crop production.

Pannar is a "one-stop seed supplier" in the various irrigation areas. The spring-type wheat cultivar package boasts high-yielding cultivars divided into the following period classes: early, medium, medium, and medium late. The package consists of PAN 3681 (new), PAN 3400, PAN 3584 (new) and PAN 3497.

PAN 3681 is a top performer in the early maturing growth class and a good choice for later planting dates. It replaces PAN 3644. PAN 3400, with a medium to quick growth period and an excellent yield potential, is ideal for medium to later plantings. PAN 3584 is a versatile medium growing season cultivar that can be planted both early and late. It replaces PAN 3541. PAN 3497, with its somewhat longer growing period, is more suitable for early plantings.
