Selecting a package of hybrids to plant is one of the most important and difficult management decisions that farmers make every year. Yield performance, stability and the hybrid’s ability to compensate under good production conditions play an important role in hybrid selection. The hybrid’s agronomic characteristics and disease risk profile are also important considerations.
Stability and adaptability over different seasons and production environments give a good indication of the reliability of the yield expectation to hedge your risk as effectively as possible for the benefit of the crop’s ultimate profitability. Accuracy improves significantly if hybrid selection is made on perennial trial results across different localities.
Pannar’s new white maize hybrids
Pannar’s white maize package of leading, stable performers demonstrates strong seedling vigour that ensures establishment of a good plant population. These hybrids are well tested, widely adapted, agronomically strong and renowned for grain and milling quality. The solid performance of our white hybrids will go a long way towards reducing variability in productivity and profitability, for effective risk management.
PAN 4B-411B and PAN 4R-811BR:
These two new quick hybrids have the advantage of second-generation stalk borer protection (MON89034) and are based on the PAN 4A-111 platform, which is renowned for its good yield performance in the eastern production areas. The platform is recommended as part of the main planting in the eastern production regions and for high potential conditions. This platform handles various plant populations well and is characterised by good general disease tolerance, standability, hectolitre mass, grain and milling quality.
PAN 5R-575R:
This new medium early hybrid has good standability and prolificacy. It performs well, especially on the sandy soils of the North Western Free State and can be used with PAN 5R-591R as a refuge for PAN 5R-891BR. The hybrid impresses with its good hectolitre mass.
PAN 6R-879BR:
PAN 6R-879BR replaces PAN 6R-779BR in the medium growth class. It is a stacked gene hybrid featuring second-generation stalk borer protection (MON89034) and glyphosate tolerance. It maintains excellent stability and tends to be prolific and can hereby compensate by producing a larger yield under favourable growing conditions. It is well adapted to high potential soils. It is well adapted to the high potential areas of the western production region. This hybrid has upright leaves and excellent standability. It exhibits good tolerance to Northern Corn Leaf Blight (NCLB).
As a multi-crop specialist, Pannar offers a complete range of cultivars composed of different growth classes and traits to meet all planting date and production area combinations. Coupled with our expertise in local conditions, exceptional agronomic support and development programmes, we provide excellent advice to farmers, based on their unique needs to optimise production.
